A couple finishes!

I'm feeling very productive. I've finished the table runner for my friend's kitchen and her birthday isnt until June 15! Yay. Speaking of birthdays, mine is today. 31 feels no different from 30, I promise! Anyhow, no work today, but i did get to see my 4th graders at their school for a recognition assembly. Since their school is closing next year, they get to go to "middle school" which....I'm still deciding how i feel about that! Here's my biggest boys with their principal and teacher:
Here are the other two, involved in various shenanigans over Memorial Day weekend...
Okay, so moving on to my finishes this weekend...the table runner didnt turn out fantastic. Im on the fence. I should have not let the red disappear....oh well.
And then there's the Prince Charming quilt i started like....way back in September! I loved using charm squares, it was SO easy and so nice to have *most* of my seams and corners match up. I used a green print from Joanns for the back since I didnt have any of the "raindrop" print left. The other block quilt is coming along, I am in the process of quilting it the same way as the Prince Charming Quilt since I love how it turned out. Next....the MARIO MUSHROOM!!

Quilt top....done!

So its friday, and i spent all week cutting and sewing new blocks. I layed them out and decided that i was satisfied with the results...today i sewed all the blocks together. Now, i tried my best to get all the seams on point. For some reason, I always have trouble with these simple block quilts. Since i hand cut instead of rotary, (bc i just....do) i feel like sometimes my measurements are a tiny bit off, and this leads to the problem. One time i used 5.5in pre-cuts and the result was pretty good, I'll post this quilt later. So i too care to line up seams and press them opposite of eachother, but the result was about 75% good for me. I have to be okay with that. I guess if i wanted to give someone a perfect quilt, i'd just buy one from the store! Since this quilt is a gift, i feel like i had to try my best, and i feel like i did, even if my "best" refuses to be obsessed with perfect alignment and seams. Each quilt i peice seems to improve, some maybe someday I'll get there, but for today, I'm mostly happy with it. I hope she is too! Heres a pic of it sewn and ironed.
Now....what to do for the back? I have a TON of fabric left over, and have planned to bind it in simple navy blue. I can't decided if i want just a simple, one peice back or a scrappy diagonal....

Block Busy

Ive been working on a quilt for a friends wedding present. I started way back in march making the blocks, and then lost interest because it seemed like i had SO MANY to make!! I was also in the middle of other projects at the time. Currently, I have one quilt basted and ready to quilt (not my favorite part....and thats why I'm procrastinating). I have another idea for a friends birthday in June (thinking a table runner or some napkins or something, not sure yet, but i have had the fabric probably for a year). Also, Ive been dying to make some Super Mario pixelated mushrooms!! Anyway, here's some of the blocks i have made so far for the wedding quilt.
Okay, so here was the original idea. Aqua, white and navy was the color scheme. And then....i decided to add orange. Im not sure why, i just felt it was a bit boring with all that blue. So, i made some orange blocks. And then i layed them out....
so when i was done laying out a random layout for the blocks, (and watching a supernatural or two..) i didnt like it. I decided it was too much orange. So, now i am thinking of making some more blue/navy/white blocks and adding about 1/3 of the orange back in. Obviously, i've got a lot of cutting and measuring to do!

Surfacing

So, i was back, then gone again. This time, I'm back to hopefully making some more regular posts! I have ONE TEST left this semester, and I'm so relieved!! No nore school till the end of August. Not that summer is a laid back time in our family- its filled with gymnastics, multiple baseball practices and games, and swimming lessons. Not to mention, all the stuff between. I just hope to finish some projects I've started, and move on to new ones! Here's the braid quilt that I started a few months ago. Its approximately crib quilt size, but its one of my favorite quilts I've made....I hope to hang on to it for awhile!
