Some solid work and a needle book

So with my nearly 2 weeks off of school, I've been finally able to get together some projects that I've wanted to start for awhile!

First is a braid quilt, from a magazine tutorial. I chose Kona solids for this one as well as a black and white print. I really like the top, and havent really decided if i will add to it or not. For me, its a little impractical to leave it this small, since it would be hard to cover up and get warm with. It'd be nice as a crib quilt, but i dont know anyone expecting! Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it all out.

Next is the needle book...i used multiple online tutorials, basically just looked at a few and then went on my own from there. If i had to do it over again, I'd add another felt page and probably make little divisions on the pockets. I finally got a chance to use the black key print that I've had hanging around, so I'm happy!

itching to sew....

SPRING BREAK has arrived!! No, not Easter Break, but when you're in classes at the local college, they break way early. Today we had a hellish test that I studied for all week and still will be lucky if i pull off a "C". BUT NEVERMIND!! This 2 weeks off means I get to sew! yay.

I bought a bunch of Kona Solids that I've been dying to cut into. I have no plans other than to create something geometric (duh, i cant sew curves) and bright. More on that later..........

Fun weekend!

So the first competition went great! It was late in the season to start, but i guess our gym wanted to give the girls a chance at a real competition to get some experience. Our level 4 team won third place, and got to take home a huge trophy! They awarded for all participants, so that was a nice plus. The meet went without a hitch, with only a stumble on her beam dismount. She excited about the next meet in April. It was so fun to watch her. It brought back alot of memories of when i was competing, and I'm just so proud that she was so confident and eager to go back out there next time. Thats all i wanted really.

Today i did some shopping at Joanns. I really went to town, b/c i normally don't buy so much fabric at once. I decided i am going to make a friend a quilt for her wedding, so i bought a bunch for that. The rest i bought on a whim, just buying some Kona solids i like and a black print. The pink fabrics are two that I've walked past many times and liked, and today they were 50% off, so i decided to just get them.

this weekend

Not much sewing going on here, though i have finished all my current projects and am gaining inspiration for a new one! I am looking at a braid-like quilt made with jelly rolls, since i have never used them before. I've also been looking at fabric from Fabricworm.com and FatquarterShop.com. So much to choose from and I'm having trouble deciding!

This weekemd is my 8 year old daughter's first gymnastics competition, and we are both super excited. I grew up in gymnastics and quit at 13 d/t an injury. I regret not having surgery and continuing with it. Anyway, this weekend is all about my daughter, who will compete at level 4 on Saturday. We're planning on watching the Nastia Liukin Super Girl cup tonight on UniversalSports.com. Tomorrow is the American Cup, so it really is a weekend packed with gymnastics.

Doubt i'll get much sewing done but you never know!
Look at all that cheese.
